FAQs

1) How do I apply for a place at secondary school?

If your son/daughter is in Year 6, you can apply for a place at secondary school, submitting your application by the deadline of 31 October via North-East Lincolnshire’s school admissions page on their website:

https://www.nelincs.gov.uk/children-families-and-schools/schools-and-education/school-admissions/apply-for-a-school-place/

2) I live close to Waltham Toll Bar Academy. Does my child automatically get a place at your school?

Even if you live in catchment, you must still apply for a place. Living in close proximity to any school does not guarantee a place there unless you have submitted an application form, as mentioned above. If you do not apply to any school by 31 October, you will be allocated a place at any school in the local authority which has space at that time.

3) How can I come to visit your school?

Every year, we host a number of different open evenings, open mornings and drop-ins.

You can find the most up-to-date links here: Waltham Toll Bar October Open Mornings Sign Up (office.com) or via our social media pages.

It is also possible to book a bespoke tour of the school; contact admissions@tollbaracademy.co.uk or call 01472 502296 for further information about this.

4) How accessible is Waltham Toll Bar Academy?

Although we have several blocks with upper floors, most of these can be accessed by lift. The ground floor rooms are all accessible for wheelchair users or those with mobility issues.

5) My child has an additional need. How do I find out if your school is right for them?

Our dedicated SEND team work hard to help children with additional needs to get the support they need when they come up to secondary school, whether this is in helping them get to lessons, giving extra support during lessons or offering a quiet and safe space when a child may need time out of lessons. The SEND team are always happy to talk to families about their child’s individual needs and can offer one-to-one tours, as well as extra transition days once your child has accepted a place with us. Please contact our SENDCo Mrs Kim Robinson directly via robinsonk@tollbaracademy.co.uk if you have further questions.

6) How can my child get to school?

Many of our students walk or cycle to school. However, there are also several buses which serve the local surrounding villages or into Grimsby or Cleethorpes. To find out more about bus services, please see the main school website page: Waltham Toll Bar Academy – Transport This also has information regarding funding available for school bus places, depending on your personal circumstances.

7) Where can you purchase uniform for Waltham Toll Bar Academy?

Uniform Direct in Grimsby is a direct stockist for our branded school uniform while our website has a list of required and recommended uniform items: Waltham Toll Bar Academy – Academy Uniform. Our Eco-committee also holds regular pre-loved uniform sales where you can pick up uniform items in very good used condition. Look out on our website for further details about these pop-up sales.

8) Do you offer wrap-around care?

Although we do not have wrap-around care as such, we do run a daily breakfast club where children can arrive from 8am and purchase breakfast items from our canteen. We also have a fantastic Enrichment programme of after-school activities running Tuesday to Friday 3-4pm throughout most of the year. Students can sign up to as many of these free activities as they wish.

9) Who do I contact if I have a question which has not been addressed here?

If you have a question about applying to the school, please get in touch via admissions@tollbaracademy.co.uk or 01472 502296 and someone from our Admissions team will get back to you.

If you have further queries about the transition process, please contact Mrs Stacey Schultz, our Associate Assistant Principal – Primary Outreach via schultzs@tollbaracademy.co.uk
