Special Educational Needs & Disabilities

We aim to ensure that students with special educational needs and disabilities are identified, supported and guided throughout their school life. This will enable them to maximise their learning potential during their time at Waltham Tollbar Academy, thus making a successful transition to adulthood and the world of further and higher education, training or employment.

Our guiding principle is one of inclusion. We want to identify and break down all possible barriers to learning. We value all students in our school equally and ensure that each has access to a broad, balanced curriculum which is differentiated to meet their needs and abilities. We aim to offer high quality support to ensure that the needs of all students are met.

For our SEND students, a network of support systems is in place across the whole curriculum. Wherever possible, students work in mainstream classes with support if required, but facilities are provided for short term individual withdrawal or additional intervention when appropriate.
