A Year 10 student is proving her English prowess as a Young Reporter for the Grimsby Telegraph. Megan Clipson (14) published her first article “The Power Of Community Support” this month and will be part of the scheme for three months.
The Young Reporters’ column has been running in the Grimsby Telegraph for many years and has been the starting point for some very successful careers during that time. It has evolved into a unique platform for aspiring writers like Megan to write about what matters to them.
Megan writes as a hobby, as she hopes to become a paramedic and is studying Triple Science for her GCSEs. She admits to writing mostly fiction and is currently writing her first novel, a murder mystery entitled ‘The Final Shot.’
“I write at home for fun and I might sometimes write in my break times at at school too, so I keep a copy in my bag to work on,” she said. “I did write a piece on plastic pollution too, which won a competition. Working for the Telegraph is giving me more experience in putting forward arguments about things I believe in.”
Megan’s English, Teacher Miss Courteney Walker, is delighted to have a student which such a passion for writing. “Megan is a delight because she truly cares about the written word and is an inspiration to her classmates,” she said.
“She always encourages other students in teamwork and we have used her creative writing pieces as examples of what to do well.”
