Big show countdown

Golden tickets may be at a premium – but the countdown is on to snap up ordinary versions for Waltham Toll Bar Academy’s biggest ever production.

Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory will be performed at two public performances at Grimsby Auditorium on Tuesday, 15th July, and Wednesday 16th starting at 7pm.

Primary children have been invited to “step into a world of pure imagination” in matinee performances on the same days.

Tickets sales already mean this will be the largest combined audience to see an academy production, said its Co-Director of Arts and Head of Drama Gemma Carter.

“We’re thrilled so many people have already bought tickets to see the show,” she said.

“The anticipation has been building from the moment we announced in September what our annual production would be this year.

“I know audiences were blown away by our talented cast at the two sell out shows of Matilda The Musical at the Parkway in Cleethorpes last year.

“The demand and their enthusiasm led us to booking the Auditorium for two nights.

“We promise an action-packed, fun-filled show featuring some fantastic dance routines and fabulous songs.”

They will include popular numbers Candy Man, I’ve Got a Golden Ticket, Oompa Loompa Song, and Pure Imagination.

The principals visited the Cromwell Road venue to experience where they would be performing.

Gemma said: “The trip’s generated even more excitement and anticipation.

“The bigger stage gives the opportunity to have a very large, impressive set. The lighting and sound will be so much better.

“It’s a big undertaking by the academy and I’d like to thank everyone for the support we have received.”

Executive Principal Philip Dickinson was looking forward to the show.

“The Auditorium shows present a perfect showcase for our students to demonstrate their fantastic talent,” he said.

“There is a lot of excitement around the academy and I know the 100-plus strong cast can’t wait to show family, friends and the wider community the results of their efforts.

“We are also looking forward to seeing more than 800 primary children at the shows.

“I’m sure many will imagine what it could be like to attend Waltham Toll Bar, with the opportunities we can offer.

“I’d like to thank the cast and staff for their support and encouragement. The students have shown a huge amount of dedication and commitment to rehearsals. I am just looking forward to seeing the results.”
