Congratulations To Tollbar Academy Students As They Celebrate Well-Deserved GCSE Results

Students at Tollbar Academy are today celebrating a fantastic set of well-deserved GCSE results with a wide range of individual success stories.

Students can be reassured that the robust and rigorous assessment processes in place at Tollbar Academy mean that these results are a true reflection of the grades they were expected to achieve had exams taken place. The Academy implemented a range of procedures to ensure that Teacher Assessed Grades were accurate, including standardising and moderating mock exams and other internal assessments.

Among the high scorers were couple Joshua Young and Casey Foyle (both 16), who between them notched up 11 Grade 9s. The boyfriend and girlfriend admitted to studying separately for their GCSEs, but they will both join Tollbar MAT Sixth Form College next month to begin their A Levels.

Casey, who achieved nine Grade 9 GCSEs, has her sights on teaching and will now study three A Levels in either Biology, Chemistry, English Language or Literature. “I am overwhelmed with my results,” she said. “I can’t believe it.”

Joshua, who also achieved six Grade 8s at GCSE, is a musician who plays saxophone and piano and is a member of John Whitgift Orchestra. He will study A Levels in Music, English and Chemistry and hopes to then study to become a Music Producer. “Music is in the genes. My dad plays sax and my mum sings. I have played sax since the age of four and music production is what I really want to do,“ he said.

Zach Mazel (16) hopes to become a doctor and has his feet on the first rung of the ladder after scoring a Grade 9 and four Grade 8s in his GCSEs. He will now study for his A Levels in Biology, Chemistry and Art at Tollbar MAT Sixth Form College.

“I put a lot of effort in after my grades were predicted lower earlier in the year, and it definitely paid off. I worked really hard and I am so happy today. This is the start of the journey for my career and I am over the first hurdle. I am really proud,” he said.

Havin Ince (16) achieved an exceptional point score passing 10 GCSEs, with four Grade 9s and three Grade 8s. She will also join Tollbar MAT Sixth Form College to study A Levels in Physics, Maths and Chemistry.

“I am so happy this morning, and I am staying on at Sixth Form at Tollbar because I know that the teachers are really focussed on the students and that has helped me to get where I am today,” she said.

Ben Cain (16) scored six Grade 9s and two Grade 8s and will now study Maths, Economics and Geography at Tollbar MAT Sixth Form College. He hopes to then go on to secure a Higher Apprenticeship in Surveying. “I didn’t expect to do this well,” he said. “I am over the moon. It is just great.”

Victoria Watts, Interim Principal said: “I am delighted to congratulate all our students on their individual successes after a very difficult, unprecedented 18 months. From the students’ perspective, they can be assured their grades were determined by a system that was fair and accurate.

“I am immensely proud of their achievements, hard work, dedication and resilience. I wish them the best for their futures and look forward to welcoming many of them into our Sixth Form College to continue their education.”
