Peter Pan tickets on sale

Tickets to the academy’s spectacular production of children’s favourite Peter Pan are set to fly out of the door – and are now on sale from Grimsby Auditorium.

We are aiming to repeat the success of last year’s production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, performed to big audiences over two days at the same venue.

The public will be able to catch Peter Pan and see his adventures to Neverland on Thursday 16th July and Friday 17th at 7pm. Hundreds of primary pupils will be invited to matinee performances on both days.

Executive Principal Philip Dickinson said students and staff were “incredibly excited” to see tickets going on sale.

“It is a really ambitious production and we’re delighted to be able to offer our students such a fantastic opportunity to showcase their talents,” he said.

“I’m grateful to our Performing Arts team for the huge amount of work that goes into producing something on this scale.

“Those families, friends, staff and members of the public who came last July were hugely impressed with what they saw. We had some wonderful feedback, which encouraged us to book Grimsby Auditorium again.

“We hope this year’s show will be even more memorable and enjoyed by even stronger numbers.”

Co-Director of Arts and Head of Drama Gemma Carter is the driving force behind the production, based on the original 1904 play by JM Barrie, later turned into one of Disney’s favourite movies.

The cast numbers 112 and Gemma promised plenty of surprises.

She said: “Auditions were held in September and weekly rehearsals have been taking place ever since.

“We have a fabulous cast and the children are loving being involved. There’s a real excitement around the place.

“Last year’s production gave us a huge boost of confidence about what is possible using a venue like Grimsby Auditorium.

“Students and staff benefited from the experience and we think this year’s show will be even more of a spectacle.

“It offers its challenges, particularly with the amount of flying, but everyone’s focused on delivering four memorable performances.”

The lead role will be taken by 16-year-old Leah Gibson, who’s taking A-level Drama at Toll Bar Sixth Form.

“I didn’t have Peter Pan in my mind when I went for the audition, I just wanted a principal role,” said Leah, Mrs Teavee in last year’s production of Charlie.

“When I got the call to say I’d got the lead role I had a feeling of joy. I am excited to be doing it and singing a lot of songs.

“I love the Auditorium and want to be there as long as possible.”

Peter’s fairy Tinkerbell will be played by Talia Fox (17), also studying in Toll Bar Sixth Form and Mrs Beauregarde in Charlie.

“At first, I thought I was going to be a dancer. When I got the call back to another audition I’d set my heart on this role.

“She’s a sassy, silly, fun character and I can’t wait to play her. It’s all acting and, as you’d expect, Tinkerbell flies a lot.”

Jasper Barnbrook, Willy Wonka in last year’s show, was delighted to land the role of pirate Captain Hook.

“He was the character I was hoping to get and the one that suits me best,” said Jasper. “I was still shocked to land it but very happy.”

He studies Dance and Drama at Toll Bar Sixth Form and is hoping to earn a place at a drama school.

“This show is a big challenge but everyone is so helpful. The experience from Charlie is helping. We want it to be even better than last year.”

The role of Wendy will be taken by Lauren Harrison, Grandma Jo in Charlie. She, like Talia and Jasper, studies Dance as well as Drama in the sixth form.

“Being on a large stage with a big set makes such a difference,” she said.

Tickets, priced online at £13 for adults and £11 for children, are on sale from the Auditorium. Please follow this link.
