Parents and members of the wider community are invited to a meeting that will gauge the level of interest in establishing a Community Parent Teacher Association.
Principal Mr Whittle said the academy was keen to play a stronger role in the area it serves and extend students' enrichment opportunities.
"We see the potential benefits to our children and the wider area of establishing a Community Parent Teacher Association," said Mr Whittle.
"We're testing the level of interest for doing so among our parent body and others in the community who may not necessarily have children here but are interested in getting involved in academy-community partnerships."
The initial meeting will take place in the Wellington Suite at the Conference Centre, next to Toll Bar Sixth Form entrance, at 4pm on Thursday, 7th March.
Assistant Principal Mr Fothergill said a formal CPTA would be constituted if the interest warranted it.
"We would like to broaden it from just being parents on it, hence our appeal to the wider community," said Mr Fothergill.
"We are certain there will be people keen and with time to support students in making a difference to the community in which they live.
"Often, such bodies are seen as fundraisers but we would like it to be much more than that.
"We have more than 50 Enrichment groups and opportunities open to our students. Many could become involved in community groups.
"For example, it might be our gardening group engages with Waltham in Bloom and those producing our fabulous summer show Matilda entertain residents in our nearby care homes."
Mr Whittle said: "We think there are all sorts of opportunities that would benefit our students and the community at the same time.
"We have some enthusiastic staff who live locally and can see how our students and community can benefit by working more closely together.
"A Community Parent Teacher Association would take responsibility for those improved and mutually beneficial links.
"I am excited about what can be achieved. I look forward meeting those interested on Thursday, 7th March."
