Dear Parents/Carers
Uniform
At Waltham Tollbar Academy, we are proud of the high expectations we have on uniform. Students look incredibly smart, and a high standard of uniform makes them proud to be members of the school community. We want to ensure that we are setting students up for success and if parents or carers have any concerns or issues around sourcing uniform, please contact us at the academy and we will be happy to help support you with this.
Equipment
We regularly inform students of the equipment requirements at the academy and check these in form time every day. We also believe it is important to 'set the students up for success', and at the start of each term we provide equipment to students who may struggle to access certain items. If there are any barriers to accessing equipment, please ask your child to speak to their Head of Year and we will quickly resolve this.
Reading book as a piece of equipment
At Waltham Toll Bar Academy, we believe that along with superb attendance, excellent literacy skills are the greatest catalyst to a child's success at school and their later life. We ask all students to bring in a reading book every day to promote reading for pleasure, develop good literacy skills, and to foster a thirst for cultural advancement. We do provide reading books for any student who requires support in accessing one.
We are really delighted to report that since introducing a book as a piece of equipment this academic year, we have seen a huge increase in the use of our school library. During the last academic year, students borrowed 1352 books from the academy library. I am thrilled to inform parents and carers that we have beaten last year's total, with an impressive 2359 books borrowed so far, this academic year!
Cycle helmets
As the warmer spring weather arrives, I am pleased to say we have started seeing an increasing number of students who are cycling to the academy. Please could you also support us by ensuring that students who travel to the academy on bicycles are strongly encouraged to wear a helmet.
Yours sincerely,
P. Dickinson
