Careers Education

Your Future Starts Here. 

At Waltham Toll Bar Academy, we believe that every young person should leave us with the knowledge, experiences and confidence to make ambitious and informed decisions about their future. 

Careers education begins in Year 7 and continues throughout a student's time at Waltham Toll Bar Academy and Toll Bar Sixth Form. Our programme is designed to broaden aspirations, challenge stereotypes and ensure students understand the full range of pathways available to them (including further and higher education, apprenticeships, technical education, training and employment). 

Careers is not a single lesson, interview or event. Students encounter careers through the curriculum, employer interactions, workplace experiences, visits, personal guidance and opportunities to explore the world beyond school. 

Our programme is informed by the Gatsby Benchmarks of Good Career Guidance and the Department for Education's statutory guidance for careers education. It is continually reviewed to make sure that it responds to the needs, interests and aspirations of our students. 

How We Evaluate Our Careers Programme: 

We continually review our careers programme to understand the difference it makes to students and identify where provision can be strengthened. 

This includes monitoring students' careers experiences and interactions, reviewing destinations and progression information, gathering student voice through tools including the Future Skills Questionnaire, reviewing participation in careers activities and considering feedback from students, parents, employers and other partners. 

This information is used to shape future careers provision and provide additional support where individual students or groups of students may need it. 

Our careers programme and published careers information will next be formally reviewed in September 2027.
