Welcome to Waltham Toll Bar Academy

We create opportunities and develop the confidence to excel – together

Choosing a secondary school for your child is a big step in their educational journey and it also marks a big change for them as they leave primary school. Often, children move on to different secondary schools from their primary school classmates, meaning not just a change to their school and teachers but also friendships too.

Here at Waltham Toll Bar Academy, we are keen to make that transition as smooth as possible for our young people. We also want to engender a sense of excitement as they embark on a new academic and social challenge. We encourage all families to visit the school before making their choice by 31 October. We hold an annual Open Evening every September as well as various Open Mornings, where you can book in for a tour of the school while it is open for a regular day. Your child will also have a visit from our transition team towards the end of Year 6 and we invite all of our new Year 7s to come in for two transition days during the summer term before they leave primary school. This is a brilliant opportunity to mix with students from our different partner primaries, to experience the school in action and get a taste of what is to come when they join us full-time.

As well as our dedicated transition team, our SEND department work closely with primary schools and the families of children with additional needs or those who might need extra support to help them settle in to a new environment. You can find information on how to contact them via these pages on the website.

Our pastoral team plays a vital role in daily life at Waltham Toll Bar Academy and we have a Head of Year 7 plus Assistant Heads of Year who are there to support our students and make sure they are getting access to the help they need in and out of the classroom.

School is about learning and the academic rigour and our exam results speak for themselves; we want all of our students to achieve their potential and go on to great things after school ends. But beyond the classroom, we also want to offer them as rounded an experience at school as possible which is why we are proud of our excellent enrichment programme that runs throughout the year and is open to all students, free of charge.

Please take a look around these pages devoted to the whole transition process. And if you have any further queries, do not hesitate to get in touch with any of the team.

We can't wait to welcome you and your child to the Waltham Toll Bar Academy family.
