Introduction

Toll Bar Academy is committed to ensuring that all students understand the full range of education, training and career pathways available to them.

This statement sets out the academy's arrangements for managing access by providers of technical education and apprenticeships to students in Years 7–13.

Student Entitlement

Students in Years 7–13 are entitled to opportunities to hear directly from providers about technical education qualifications and apprenticeships.

In accordance with provider access legislation, Toll Bar Academy will provide at least six opportunities for students to encounter providers of technical education or apprenticeships across Years 7–13.

These encounters will be organised across the three key phases:

Years 7–9: at least three provider encounters
Years 10–11: at least two provider encounters
Years 12–13: at least two provider encounters

Encounters will take place during the standard school day for a reasonable period of time and will provide students with meaningful information about the provider, the qualifications or apprenticeships available, the careers to which these may lead and what learning or training with the provider is like. Students will have an opportunity to ask questions.

Requesting Access

Providers wishing to request access to students should contact:

FAO: Ben Latham
Assistant Principal – Head of Personal Development and Careers
Email: enquiries@tollbaracademy.co.uk

Please include information about the organisation, the opportunities you wish to present to students, the relevant year group(s), proposed format and any preferred dates or times.

Requests will be considered in relation to the academy's careers programme, curriculum and calendar, the age and needs of the students concerned, and the suitability and practical requirements of the proposed activity.

The academy will work with providers to identify an appropriate opportunity wherever reasonably practicable.

What Providers Should Cover

During a provider encounter, students should have access to information about:

  • the provider and the technical education qualifications or apprenticeships it offers

  • the careers those opportunities could lead to

  • what learning or training with the provider is like

  • how students can apply or find out more

  • opportunities to ask questions.

Premises and Facilities

Where appropriate, the academy will make suitable rooms and presentation facilities available for provider encounters. Arrangements will be agreed in advance with the Careers Team and will be subject to the academy's safeguarding and visitor procedures.

Relevant provider literature or digital resources may also be made available to students where appropriate.
