Learning About Work By Experiencing Work

Experiences with employers and workplaces are an important part of careers education at Toll Bar Academy.

At Key Stage 3, students experience employer-led interactions and projects. Employers can set authentic workplace-related challenges and act as the employer by reviewing, assessing and judging students' work. This allows students to begin developing an understanding of workplace expectations while applying their learning to real situations.

In Year 10, students undertake a dedicated period of work experience, providing an opportunity to experience a workplace and develop their employability skills.

Students in Year 12 also undertake work experience as part of their Sixth Form careers programme. Sixth Form students are additionally encouraged to undertake volunteering, helping them develop experience, confidence and skills alongside their academic studies.
